Sound Baths
A sound bath is a type of meditation which involves lying down (or being seated in a reclining position if preferred) where a trained ‘Sound Practitioner’ uses one or several instruments to create soothing, nurturing and relaxing vibrations.
Studies show that these vibrations can resonate with the energy waves in our bodies and this can lead to a deeper state of contemplation and relaxation, shutting off your body’s fight-or-flight reflex.
The waves of beautiful sound created from Himalyan Singing Bowls, pure Quartz Crystal Bowls, gongs, chimes, native American flutes, frame drums and percussion instruments may help with stress, fatigue and depression symptoms.
Some studies suggest that as stress is linked with other conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, engaging in sound baths may prove to reduce the risk of chronic conditions as well as improve your mood and release headaches and tension in your body
Sound healing has been applied in natural medicine by many cultures for thousands of years. It is a truly beautiful experience that can leave you feeling refreshed, energised and deeply relaxed and calm.
Group Sound Relaxation
Typically, a group sound relaxation session will last 75 minutes– with a little time afterwards for reflection. It involves lying down on a yoga mat (or seated in a reclining position if preferred), & making yourself comfortable, snuggled under a warm blanket with a cushion under your head and eye mask to reduce light. You will relax to the sound of various instruments being played with a small group of around 8 – 10 people.
The session usually begins with a short introduction including the science behind sound relaxation, some ‘after care’ guidance and an explanation of what to expect during the session. This is followed by a meditation to calm down your busy ‘monkey mind’ and then the beautiful sound experience begins.
A few days before the session you will receive re-confirmation of your place and a short list of things to bring with you.
